Carousel: "The Dances Of Carousel" by Agnes deMille (1990)
Hosted by Mary Rodgers, with Agnes deMille and Gemze deLappe.
Produced for and by The Rogers and Hammerstein corporation to preserve
the dances and original choreography of Agnes deMille. A rare piece
of theatrical history. It seems the tape is available for viewing only
(you aren't allowed to check it out) at The New York Public Library, and
comes with the following description: "Agnes deMille and Gemze deLappe
analyze and discuss choreographic and dramatic aspects of three dances
from the musical Carousel: the dance following the song "June is Bustin'
Out All Over", the hornpipe "Blow High, Blow Low," and the Act II ballet
("Louise On The Beach" AKA "The Carousel Ballet"). Each dance is performed
in full by members of the Nashville Ballet, in costume onstage to piano
accompaniment, and excerpts of the dances are shown again to illustrate
points made by deMille and deLappe in a dance studio. deLappe and Michael Phillips
also demonstrate key movements and phrases in the studio, in practice clothes.
The discussion also covers Miles White's costumes for the original production
of Carousel in 1945. deMille reminisces about the memorable performances of
Annabelle Lyon and Bambi Linn, who respectively created the roles of Hannah
and Louise; she also recalls deLappe's interpretation of Louise. 75 minutes long

Off-Broadway cast): 1. "Light Of The World", 2. "All Good Gifts", 3. The Good Samaritan,

(Jesus), and David Haskell (Judas) perform "All For The Best" on TV show, 7. The Today Show

due to be released the following week, 8. Peggy Gordon and Gilmer McCormick (with 3 of the
4 original musicians) on 6/25/11 in New York at a Godspell reunion party singing "By My Side".
Peggy wrote "By My Side" and this is the original version, with an additional verse.
The song, with the original verses was included in the original production, but when the
cast album was recorded and the rights sold to Bell Records they wouldn't allow the full
version of the song to be performed any longer, and it had to be shortened for the show.
This is the first time since 1972 the full song was performed.
